Electrical PPE
Organize task-specific PPE without substituting for a hazard assessment.
PPE selection follows the hazard assessment and work method; no product list can replace that process.
Start with
- Can the equipment be de-energized and verified?
- Shock boundaries and voltage exposure.
- Arc-flash incident energy or category method used by the employer.
- Equipment condition and task-specific hazards.
System
- Arc-rated clothing, face/head protection, voltage-rated gloves with protectors, hearing protection, footwear, and insulated tools as required.
Inspection
- Dates, test intervals, contamination, holes/cuts, storage, fit, and compatibility between components.
Avoid
- Mixing components without checking the complete protection system.
- Treating everyday workwear as arc-rated.
