Motor Control Centers

Planning, lineup placement, feeders, controls, labeling, and verification.

MCC work requires coordinated lineup data, ratings, feeders, buckets, control power, communications, arc-flash boundaries, and repeatable commissioning.

01

Planning

  • Verify lineup drawings, bus ratings, short-circuit rating, incoming source, load list, expansion space, and handling route.
  • Confirm environment, clearance, housekeeping pad, top/bottom entry, and cable-bending needs.
02

Key decisions

  • Main and feeder protection coordination.
  • Control-power source and isolation.
  • Bucket type, starter/drive selection, network architecture, and spare strategy.
03

Installation

  • Align and anchor sections; join bus exactly as instructed.
  • Control contamination and foreign material.
  • Terminate, torque, label, and segregate power/control wiring.
04

Commissioning & pitfalls

  • Inspect bus joints, insulation, grounding, interlocks, settings, phase rotation, controls, networks, and each starter under safe conditions.
  • Common failures: unverified bus torque, wrong protection settings, damaged shutters/interlocks, and incomplete as-builts.
