Troubleshooting
VFD overcurrent
Check acceleration, load, wiring, motor data, and drive configuration in sequence.
Separate acceleration demand, mechanical overload, motor/wiring faults, incorrect motor data, and unstable control tuning.
Review first
- Fault code and event history.
- Motor nameplate data and drive parameters.
- When the fault occurs: start, steady load, decel, or speed change.
Tests
- Inspect motor/cable insulation with the drive isolated.
- Check mechanical freedom and load.
- Trend output current, DC bus, speed command, and torque demand.
Corrections
- Lengthen acceleration, correct motor data, reduce load, repair motor/cable, or tune control as evidence supports.
Verification
- Run the full speed/load profile and retain a baseline parameter backup and trend.
