Troubleshooting

VFD overcurrent

Check acceleration, load, wiring, motor data, and drive configuration in sequence.

Separate acceleration demand, mechanical overload, motor/wiring faults, incorrect motor data, and unstable control tuning.

01

Review first

  • Fault code and event history.
  • Motor nameplate data and drive parameters.
  • When the fault occurs: start, steady load, decel, or speed change.
02

Tests

  • Inspect motor/cable insulation with the drive isolated.
  • Check mechanical freedom and load.
  • Trend output current, DC bus, speed command, and torque demand.
03

Corrections

  • Lengthen acceleration, correct motor data, reduce load, repair motor/cable, or tune control as evidence supports.
04

Verification

  • Run the full speed/load profile and retain a baseline parameter backup and trend.
